The ANSYS R13 Product Update Seminar organised by CAD-IT Consultants on 15th April 2011 saw the unveiling of the latest product release from ANSYS, Inc. Offering advanced simulation technology spanning all key engineering disciplines in an integrated software platform designed for Simulation Driven Product Development™, the ANSYS 13.0 suite encompasses a broad solver portfolio that spans a full range of functionality, as well as state-of-the-art high performance computing (HPC) and data management solutions.
The seminar was graced by 100 distinguished participants from diverse industries and disciplines, encompassing Automotive, Defence, Electronics, HVAC, Marine/Offshore, Oil & Gas, and Renewable Energy amongst many others.
The seminar started with the Welcome Address by Mr. Andy Tan, Sales Director of CAD-IT Consultants. He detailed the challenges faced by design and manufacturing companies in the present economy, and highlighted the importance of innovation to stay ahead of the competition.
The seminar proper began with Mr. Timothy Kwan, CAD-IT’s Product Management Director, showcased the enhancements in the ANSYS Workbench platform with the latest release. The seamless integration of core applications - such as ANSYS Mechanical and ANSYS CFD, and now includes ANSYS POLYFLOW - on a single platform allows users to couple multiple physics in their analyses and to dramatically increase productivity. He also touched on the new features in ANSYS DesignXplorer, such as new Design of Experiment (DOE) types and using Microsoft Excel as a solver in Workbench.

Dr. Ma Shengwei, Assistant Technical Manager of CAD-IT, next provided updates on the meshing capabilities in ANSYS. There have been notable improvements made in the mesh controls and mesh methods. His talk was followed by presentations on ANSYS Engineering Knowledge Manager (EKM) - ANSYS’ data management solution which offers CAE collaboration and simulation automation - and ANSYS HPC - which promises to improve solver speed exponentially.
Mr. Timothy Kwan then introduced the significant improvements in ANSYS’ Structural Mechanics solutions, which includes increased accuracy through advanced material models, additional composites modeling capabilities, as well as increased contact results accuracy amongst others.
Dr. Ma Shengwei rounded up the seminar by elaborating on the enhancements in ANSYS’ Fluid Dynamics solutions. In R13.0, users can enjoy workflow improvements and greater solver efficiency, work with improved physical models, achieve optimization through robust design, as well as customize and automate the software’s usability.
